Clean room - nice view (cricket pitch)
I stopped at the Tollgate the night before my graduation. It was very easy and very relaxing. Perfect location too!
Comfort of the beds were poor, and cleanliness not so good. Hotel and bar staff were not so helpful in giving information.
The staff were very friendly and helpful, the rooms were comfortable and clean, and the food was good. It is an excellent hotel. I cannot fault it!
There isn't anything that I did not like about this hotel, we will definitely be staying there again.
We only stayed one night and we recieved exactly what we wanted, a clean and frendly hotel. One comment I would like to make is in regards to the food, normally breakfast is self service but at the Tollgate the breakfast was cooked fresh and to demand, it made such a difference to the quality and flavour of the food.
Very clean and comfortable with friendly staff. Plenty of parking and in a good location.
Generally too hot inside the hotel. Unfortunately too many people live their lives on top of radiators so it is hardly the hotel's fault!
Cheap drinks and good quality food. Friendly staff and locals
Rooms need renovating completely. Poor decor. Should of been some entertainment in the bar with it being bank holiday even some background music or something. Could of been a bar to watch sometihng other than sport. I wanted to watch bgt for 1 hour and was told no even though there was only us and 3 other people in the bar.
Calling it a hotel is a mis-description because the accommodation is made up of two storey garage-like chalets with direct entry from a car park into the room and no views. We wanted to go to another hotel but were told that the booking could not be cancelled and we would lose our full payment. The room was cold, draughty and noisy (from cars and late night returners from the bar). When we left the room the heating automatically turned off, which meant that upon return the room was bitterly cold. There was no wardrobe, just a hanging rail above the convector heater. In order to get our breakfast my disabled husband had to walk in the rain across the car park to the restaurant. The continental breakfast meant a croissant, toasts and coffee.
Location was ideal for our needs. I would recommend this hotel for certain reasons but overall, it was very average.
The ill-fitting door caused a strong cold draught and the toilet flush was defective. There was no night porter.
Pleasant and helpful staff.
The bed was too hard for my comfort, but may well suit others.
Convenient for our journey North, staff were very nice, fitness facilities seemed OK, but didn't have chance to try them. Room was basic, but clean and comfortable - good value.
The food took a long time to arrive in the bar, and was very basic - good breakfast selection, though.
Central for visiting family
Stayed two nights breakfast was very slow process staff appeared rushed but were doing their best. Toast ordered on first day was cold and burnt 2nd day better, having told them. Coffee was to weak to drink on both days. Very poor continental options. Free Wifi did not connect ? Left the room on the morning after the first night's stay and arrived back late in the evening, room had not been cleaned, beds not made no clean towels etc. Told the reception on check out. The reaction was; oh dear, never mind I will have to let someone know! she also said if we had requested clean towels they would have provided them.
It does the simple things right
They should get proper croissants for the continental breakfast (although I do live closer to France than London so I may be spoilt!)
Large clean and comfortagble rooms, Good parking. Good bar & free membership of leisure centre.
Clean, helpful friendly staff, perfectly located for trip to alton towers. Would stay again
